Catchment Level 1 of Rwanda was developed by SHER Ingénieurs-Conseils s.a, under auspices of Rwanda Natural Resources Authority, with financial support of Government of Rwanda. It was developed in the framework of Water Resources Master Plan study (2015). For catchment level 1, there are nine catchments which are Kivu, Nyabarongo upper, Muvumba, Akanyaru, Akagera Lower, Akagera Upper, Mukungwa, Nyabarongo lower and Rusizi. These catchments are based on key river systems in Rwanda.
